Grace Iverson
New Position
18
Grace Iverson
began a new position at LUMA in August and will
continue at the museum for the next year as a full time Education/
Curatorial Fellow. She began working at LUMA as a Gallery Manager
her Freshman year and became an Education/Curatorial Intern during
her Sophomore year. As a student, she had the opportunity to assist
in curating and creating educational materials for both the rotating
exhibitions and the permanent collection. She has enjoyed working
in such an engaging environment and is excited to remain a part of
the Loyola community after graduating this past May with degrees
in anthropology and art history. Grace hopes to employ her eclectic
research interests to assist Curator Natasha Ritsma in preparing for
LUMA’s upcoming exhibitions. She is also thrilled to continue working
with LUMA’s fantastic team of volunteer docents–stay tuned for a new
round of docent training this coming spring!
Crèche Spotlight
This year, LUMA showcases a newly acquired Nativity scene carved by artist Carlos Orozco from Oaxaca,
Mexico. Well-known in Chicago, he creates
alebrijes
, brightly colored wood carvings of mythical creatures
and animals. Orozco’s arts initiative,
Puech Ikots
, supports the self determination and economic
independence of indigenous communities in Oaxaca. In honor of the ten-year anniversary of
Art and Faith
of the Crèche
, LUMA commissioned Orozco to design a crèche inspired by the Oaxacan art of
alebrijes
.
