during the 17th century. Furthermore, Victoria Sancho

Lobis and Rebecca Long, curators at the Art Institute of

Chicago, gave talks related to the exhibit.

In conjunction with our exhibition

William Castellana:

South Williamsburg

we invited two prominent Orthodox

rabbis, Rabbi EfraimTwerski and Rabbi Micha Greenland,

to reflect on photographs from our exhibition. For our

exhibition

Community Uprooted: Eminent Domain in the

U.S.

that featured photographs by Richard Wasserman,

LUMA partnered with Loyola’s Center for Urban Research

and Learning (CURL) and The Chicago Architectural

Foundation, and hosted an interdisciplinary panel discussion

featuring Chicago Attorney Lenny D. Asoaro; DePaul

Professor of Political Science, Larry Bennett; and Director

of the Center for Urban Research and Learning, Dr. Philip

Nyden. For our exhibition on human trafficking

More than

a Survivor

, we invited Cook County Sheriff, Thomas J. Dart

(Loyola University Chicago alumni) and human trafficking

survivors; Rev. Dr. Marian Hatcher and Shamere McKenzie

who shared their experiences with human trafficking.

LUMA’s exhibition

True Confessionals

featured photographs

of confessionals in cathedrals throughout Italy by artist

and Kenyon College professor Marcella Hackbardt. In her

artist talk Hackbardt discussed the process and inspiration

behind this series of documentary photographs. LUMA also

hosted Carlos Orozco the founder of “Puech Ikots” which

is a Mexican-American art collective created to contribute

to the self-determination and economic independence

of indigenous pueblos in Oaxaca as well as to promote

the art and culture of Oaxaca. Mr. Orozco discussed and

demonstrated the process of carving and painting the

traditional Oaxacan folk art sculptures.
