Murphy utilizes macro photography to emphasize
the materiality of her subject. Murphy’s visually
stunning images are grounded in a technical mastery
of the photographic medium. Having worked as a
photographer at NASA for over a decade, Murphy
builds on the hyperreal aesthetic of scientific imaging
while simultaneously referencing the visual history
of Op Art. In its conceptual connections to the male
dominated era of minimalism and the ever-present
