Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 2015 Season at the Grant
Park Music Festival.
We’re so proud to present a season
that mixes world premieres with Festival
favorites, and showcases our own glorious
orchestra and chorus with world renowned
guest artists.
Whether you’ve been coming to the
Festival for years, or you are seeing the
Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus for the
first time, we know you’ll agree that the music never sounds better than it does
at the state-of-the-art Jay Pritzker Pavilion designed by architect Frank Gehry.
Highlights this season outside Millennium Park included three very special
concerts when the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus traveled to the
neighborhoods as part of
Festival Connect
, our initiative to increase music
education and engagement opportunities for audiences of all ages. The Grant
Park Orchestra conducted by Christopher Bell performed the
Independence
Day Salute
at the South Shore Cultural Center, and the Grant Park Chorus visited
the South Shore Cultural Center and Columbus Park Refectory for
a cappella
concerts in July.
Join us before each concert for Club 615, the Festival’s free pre-concert lecture
series in the Family Fun tent. Lectures take place on Wednesday and Friday at
5:30 and Saturdays at 6:15.
These ten weeks of free concerts would not be possible without the generous
support of our long-standing partners—the Chicago Park District and the
Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. They, along with our
many foundation and corporate donors, contributors, and thousands of Festival
members, help us to present a season of extraordinary music and stunning
performances each year.
Thank you for joining us tonight. Enjoy the concert and the rest of the season.
Warm regards,
Carlos Kalmar
Artistic Director and Principal Conductor
