David Perry leads the orchestra with Johann Strauss’s sparkling Champagne Polka,
Bohuslav Martinu’s one act comedic ballet La revue de cuisine, Darius Milhaud’s Le boeuf
sur le toit (The Ox on the Roof), and Mozart’s delicious Sinfonia Concertante for violin and
viola. Chicago Philharmonic concertmaster David Perry and Lyric Opera’s Principal Violist
Carol Cook as soloists.

Scott Speck returns to the podium and the concert opens with Debussy’s fragrant Prelude
to the Afternoon of a Faun, (with pianist Jorge Federico Osorio) Nights in the Gardens
of Spain by Manuel de Falla, Maurice Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand, and Claude
Debussy’s wildly impressionistic picture of the sea, La mer.
A Vision in Sound
, on Sunday, June 7, 2015, 7:00p.m. at Pick-Staiger Hall in Evanston.
Scott Speck conducting. Contemporary American composer Jennifer Higdon pondered the
loss of her dear brother, Andrew Blue Higdon, by dedicating a marvelous blue cathedral
to his memory. American composer Kenji Bunch was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s
cartoonish pop art to create his funny, jazzy and inspiring Symphony No. 1. The season
closes with the ultimate symphonic work inspired by visual art: Pictures at an Exhibition.
Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky and master orchestrator Maurice Ravel take us on a
promenade through a gallery of fascinating paintings and designs, from the ruins of an old
castle to the vast glory of The Great Gate of Kiev.

anniversary season Celebrating the Senses: Five Senses,
Five Thrilling Concerts. The 2014-2015 season runs from
September 21, 2014 through June 7, 2015
